On April 20, 2021, the project kickoff meeting of the national standard "Technical Specification for Laser Surface Cleaning in Green Manufacturing" (hereinafter referred to as "Laser Cleaning Specification") was officially held in Wuhan Optics Valley. Faced with the current lack of laser cleaning standards both domestically and internationally, the formulation of this standard is urgent and will strive to be released in the second half of 2022.

The current laser cleaning industry has gradually matured in terms of technology product research and development, cost, mass production, or practical application, and normal attempts are being made to explore commercialization. Then, a major challenge that urgently needs to be solved is the lack of industry level or above standards.

Due to the lack of national standards, there are situations in the market where the quality of laser cleaning equipment is uneven and the service quality cannot be guaranteed, which poses certain risks to the immature market and limits the commercialization path of laser cleaning enterprises.

As early as the 2019 Laser Manufacturing Technology and Industry Development Summit Forum, Chinese Academy of Engineering academician Yao Jianquan proposed the establishment of laser cleaning standards, which was highly endorsed by industry experts attending the conference. We unanimously elected Mr. Wang Chunming from our company to lead the preparation of laser cleaning standards.

This national standard project is led by the China Aviation Comprehensive Technology Research Institute, with Wuhan Xiangming Laser Technology Co., Ltd. as the main editing unit, and jointly participated in the preparation with China Aircraft Productivity Center, Chengdu Aircraft Corporation, 800 Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and other units.

Xi Daoyun, Secretary General of the Green Manufacturing Standards Committee (China Aircraft Productivity Promotion Center), Wang Xichang, Researcher at the Institute of Aviation Industry, Wang Chunming, Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and 35 expert representatives from 23 units in various fields such as aviation, aerospace, rail transit, machinery, power, and national defense attended the meeting to jointly discuss the development of the "Laser Cleaning Specification".

Cao Bin, Deputy Director of the Comprehensive Department of the Wuhan Future Science and Technology City Construction Management Office, congratulated the convening of this kickoff meeting, saying, "Wuhan is the birthplace of China's laser industry. As a benchmark enterprise in the field of laser cleaning, Xiangming Laser has participated in the preparation of national standards for laser cleaning, which has greatly promoted the development of the laser cleaning industry and the Optics Valley laser industry."

Researcher Wang Xichang from the Aviation Industry Institute introduced the project background, standard research process, and preparation plan of the Laser Cleaning Specification. Researcher Wang Xichang stated that in recent years, laser cleaning has been widely used in industries such as aerospace, automotive manufacturing, and rail transit in China. The establishment of national standards is a strong integration of mature technology and the demand for high-end equipment applications.

Xi Daoyun, Secretary General of the Green Manufacturing Standards Committee of the China Machinery Productivity Promotion Center, has put forward requirements for the compilation of the Laser Cleaning Specification. She emphasized that in the preparation process, universality should be fully considered, and the required clauses should be specific, clear, detectable, and verifiable. At the same time, opinions from all relevant parties should be widely solicited.

As the leader of the standard preparation work, Mr. Wang Chunming gave a brief introduction to the development and application of laser cleaning technology. Wang Chunming stated that China's laser cleaning industry started relatively late, but has developed rapidly in recent years. Domestic enterprises represented by Xiangming Laser have replaced international advanced technologies.

After the launch of the "Laser Cleaning Specification", standard discussions, technical research, opinion solicitation, draft revisions, standard reviews, and approval reports will be organized according to the schedule in the next two years. Efforts will be made to release it in the second half of 2022, which will fill the gap in laser cleaning standards at home and abroad. The launch meeting of this national standard project also attracted many mainstream media from China, such as Changjiang Daily, Chutian Urban Daily, Hubei TV, People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Phoenix Net, etc., to report on it.
